Secretariat Assistant

Kerala's policy-making nerve center, no field posting

Job profile

What this role actually involves

The Secretariat is the nerve center of state governance. Unlike regional or departmental administrative roles, working here places you directly at the policy-making level.

Official designations covered: Assistant and Assistant Section Officer. Departments: Government Secretariat (General Administration and Finance), Kerala Public Service Commission (KPSC HQ), State Audit Department (formerly Local Fund Audit), Vigilance Tribunal, and the Office of the Advocate General (Ernakulam, via separate allied options). Postings are almost exclusively centralized in Thiruvananthapuram, with minor exceptions like the AG Office.

Core responsibility is file management and policy processing: initial scrutiny of incoming communications (tappals) and precedents, noting and drafting formal case histories for superior officers up to the Chief Secretary, and legislative work such as handling assembly interpellations and processing draft bills or subordinate legislation.

Scale of pay: ₹39,300 to ₹83,000, per the current active pay revision structure, plus Dearness Allowance and Class-A city House Rent Allowance for Thiruvananthapuram. Gross entry emoluments are approximately ₹53,000 to ₹55,000 per month at entry level.
